Silence and solitude have been important elements in the Christian faith since Jesus modeled it for his disciples. But many of us who have had demanding careers and busy family lives, combined with travel and hobbies, have had the silence and solitude squeezed out of our lives.
When you are in a season of mid-life renewal, no amount of good thinking will enable you to discover your calling. As an elderly Chinese pastor once admonished me, “…remember young man, your calling is a gift to receive, not a goal to achieve.”
We have found that one of the best things you can do in your Halftime journey is to learn how to take time away by yourself to be still and listen to God. A short devotional each morning is important, but it plays a different role in your life. A silent spiritual retreat for a day or perhaps longer will take you to a different place. Most of the people I have coached over the past 20 years who have tried a spiritual retreat have found it so valuable that they cannot imagine how they got this far in life without regularly taking this kind of break from the noise.
So how do you get started and what can you do to make this really fit you personally?
This 30-minute webinar will focus on what we have learned about the essential elements for your retreat, and some creative ways to adapt the setting and pace. For those who can stay on, we will interact around your questions for another 15-30 minutes.
